B - Benevolence ( A - Z Challenge : Day 2)
Many a times we acquire greater understanding and the depth of a certain aspect when told through pictures or stories. So instead of writing so much I would like to convey my thought through a story.
Witnessing this spectacle, humans were obviously in awe not only because of the supreme intelligence and precise timing that these elephants sensed about Lawrence's passing, but also because of the profound memory and emotion the beloved animals evoked in such an organized way: Walking slowly, for days, making their way in a solemn one-by-one queue from their habitat to his house. Lawrence's wife, Francoise, was especially touched, knowing that the elephants had not been to his house prior to that day for well over 3 years! But yet they knew where they were going. The elephants obviously wanted to pay their deep respects, honoring their friend who'd saved their lives - so much respect that they stayed for 2 days and 2 nights without eating anything. Then one morning, they left, making their long journey back home.
A simple act of Benevolence made the world to witness a miracle .
After reading the story , I just realized I live in a world where we need to pay for everything we do .Even if it costs us so much , we never let go doing such things. I wonder, then why are we resisting ourselves in lending our hand to help and heart to think for others which is of free. We need not pay a penny for an act of kindness or a thought for others. But still we prefer the things that cost us fortunes.
In this story , Mr. Lawrence Anthony thought of the poor animals and extended his help. He was not a Super-Human but was a Benevolent Man . His this act of kindness was clearly understood by wild animals which don't speak our language. This story truly justifies the saying
"BENEVOLENCE IS THE LANGUAGE WHICH EVEN DEAF CAN HEAR AND DUMB CAN SPEAK"
The easiest way to reach God , is to think and have a heart for others.God,himself appreciates the one who serves others . Simple acts of benevolence can melt even the hardest rocks.Lets not melt the rocks , but wash away our Selfishness.
Its not something we need to think or plan to help others or be compassionate to them. In fact its the simplest of all. We just need a HEART. A KIND HEART. When we have a heart , we can feel the pain of others too which will force us to help in the best way possible.
Let us all fan the spark of Benevolence within our Hearts and let the Humanity spread :)
Thanks for stopping by.
Would love to hear from you :)
Lawrence Anthony,
a legend in South Africa and author of 3 books including the bestseller,
The Elephant Whisperer.
He bravely rescued wildlife and rehabilitated elephants all over the globe
from human atrocities, including the courageous rescue of Baghdad Zoo animals.
On March 7, 2012 Lawrence Anthony died.
He is remembered and missed by his wife, 2 sons, 2 grandsons, and
numerous elephants.
Two days after his passing, the wild elephants showed up at his home
led by two large matriarchs. Separate wild herds arrived in droves
to say goodbye to their beloved 'man-friend'.
A total of 31 elephants had patiently walked over 112 miles
to get to his South African House.
"We just need a kind heart" and God. Love that! It sums up what is missing and needed in this world. The elephant story is touching. I will never look at elephants the same way again.
